Joint pain doesn't just affect the joint itself. It can make everyday movements feel harder, reduce your confidence and stop you doing the activities you enjoy. Whether you're experiencing pain in your knees, hips, shoulders, ankles or elsewhere, physiotherapy can help you understand what's causing it and what you can do about it.

Our physiotherapists take the time to assess your symptoms, movement and lifestyle to uncover the root cause of the problem. Using a combination of hands-on treatment, targeted exercises and practical advice, we'll help you move more comfortably, build resilience and work towards lasting relief.

What causes joint pain?

Joint pain is usually caused by stress on one of the structures in and around the joint, such as cartilage, ligaments, tendons or muscles. Sometimes the cause is obvious, for example if you're injured in a fall or sporting accident. Other times it builds gradually, from poor posture, long periods of sitting, or training incorrectly, all of which put more strain through the joint than it can cope with.

A painful knee, for example, doesn't always mean the knee itself is the problem. It might simply be the structure feeling the effects of something happening elsewhere in your body, whether that's how you move, an old injury, or everyday demands you're placing on it.

How can physiotherapy help with joint pain?

Joint pain is one of the most common reasons people seek physiotherapy. During your session, your physiotherapist examines the painful area and finds out what's really causing it, whether that's the way you move, a change in your routine, or an old injury that's quietly changed how you move without you noticing.

Once your physiotherapist understands the issue, they'll build a personalised plan, which may include hands-on treatment, exercises, movement retraining, or lifestyle advice, depending on what you need. Ultimately, the goal is to make sure you don't just leave with a quick fix, but long-term relief, confidence, and the ability to return to the activities that matter most to you.

How can Ascenti Physio help with joint pain?

Our physiotherapists start by working out exactly which structures are under strain and why, so treatment goes to the source, not just the sore spot. Depending on what we find, that could mean hands-on treatment, exercises to build strength and stability around the joint, movement retraining, or practical changes to reduce everyday load. As things improve, we'll gradually build back towards the movements and activities you want to get back to, at a pace that suits your body, lifestyle and goals.
